As caregivers, we really should be sensitive to the needs and wishes of our children. They learn that other people’s feelings come before their own when we force them to embrace or kiss them…. And, it can be scary and confusing.
Rather than forcing or threatening them or ignoring their wishes, give your child some options of how to greet others.
